This is 85 Southbound by Camden in early 1999.
This is my
index page for my photo galleries of Highway 85, and of
construction photos from the 1980s and early 1990s. A lot
of my Highway 85 photos are from when it opened in the
fall of 1994. Highway 85 runs only through Santa Clara
County and it is complete. The old photos are
surprisingly popular and people do write me about them,
along with the old ones saved for Highway 87. I will not
be taking down any photos of 85. Highway 85 is named
for former congressman Norman Mineta apart from the
section inside the Saratoga city limits for fallen CHP
officer Scott M. Greenly. 85 will be widened at some
point to eight lanes total. I had read since the 1980s
that the county had room in the center divider for a
light rail line running on 85 north of 87. They gave up
on that idea around 2018. This highway was built because
some of the people that lived out here back then really pushed for it.
