Here we see 85 South at Almaden Expressway in April 2001.
85 opened south of this interchange in August 1993. It was built by Caltrans in 1988-1990.
The Caltrans section was built with concrete. South of here, it was built by San José, using asphalt.
Mt. Hamilton, Mt. Stakes (on the Stanislaus County Line), and Mt. Isabel are the peaks on the horizon.

85 South approaching the Highway 87 and Santa Teresa Blvd Exit in April 2001.
The flyover from 85 South to 87 North was delayed by the early 1990s recession, and a Measure A from 1992 was supposed to fund this but it was struck down.
These ramps started being built in 2002, and were complete in May 2004. The bridge shown here was under construction by 1988.
