156 West in Monterey County

This set is taken west of US101 on 1/21/2011, from Prunedale to Castroville. This is an official scenic route. All of 156 is a scenic route, though the scenic route signs on the section multiplexed with US101 aren't up, likely because of the high accident rate in that area. This is the second set of highway photos I have posted online of this section.

This is just past US101. A new highway will be built here starting in 2023. The original highway was built in 1942. Blackie Road and Castroville Boulevard were never 156.

This is by Meridian Street and is one mile past US101.

This is one mile past US101.

[156 West]

This is from 9/6/1988 by Oak Hills Drive. There is a housing development to the north. To the south there is Blackie Road.

[156 West]

This is from January 1, 1989.
This is looking at Mt. Toro, which is sporting an unusual snow pack. These mountains occasionally receive snow, but it is a rarity. I'm leaving this photo up because it usually does not look like this.

[156 West]

This is two miles past US101 and it is before Oak Hills Drive. This area is populated also. The beaches did not show up from here on this trip.
