US50 West in Nevada

This is climbing into the mountains. This area burned about 1992. You can easily see the road cuts of this pass from US 395 near Minden and Gardnerville.

This is nearing Spooner Summit. The elevation here is at least 6000'. These mountains are very dramatic in the winter time.

This is east of Spooner Summit in October 1996. There are a lot of people and NHP cars through here.

This is the first view of South Lake Tahoe. This is taken just before the snow season of 1996-1997 started. Note the snow pack left from the previous winter. A few months later, some parts of US 50 in California washed away during the El Niño deluge.

This is taken inside South Lake Tahoe. Some of the previous winter's snow pack remains in the high Sierra even in October.
