Prior to 1990, this part of US101 bottlenecked to six lanes (total)
at Tully and then four at Capitol. It was that wide until Cochrane Road
in Morgan Hill. The bottlenecks largely disappeared on US101 north of
Bernal in 1990.
This is just north of Tully Road.
The hills ahead started being developed around 1997.

This is approaching Capitol Expressway then Yerba Buena Ave, and the
latter is a relatively new interchange. This general area improved
greatly around 1997.
This is from 2/19/2009.
The acceleration lanes link the Capitol Expressway and Yerba Buena
Ave interchanges. US101 used to only be four lanes wide from here on,
and this was basically the start of the rural stretch of US101 before the
1990s.
