US101 South in Monterey County and 156 West

This is all from 9/6/1988. These five photos are of US101 South and 156 West from the 156 exit near San Juan Bautista to the 156 West exit in Prunedale. This is a populated area. Also a US101 bypass was to be built from here to north Salinas. It was never built. This section was improved over the years and interchnages were built around 2013. The 156 interchange was an intersection years ago. This ride used to be a nail biter. It ran through a populated area without enough interchanges. The first photo is by 129. This was during the 1980s drought.

This is before 156 East.

[US101 South]

This is just past 156 West. The Prunedale bypass would have run to the left of the hill with the big rock formations.

[US101 South]

This is near Crazy Horse Canyon Road. There is local traffic in this section though there are people travling great distances through here also.

[US101 South]

This is the 156 interchange. It was redone to some degree by 1999. Also this interchange will be completely replaced. 156 would have run on Vierra Canyon Road to the Prunedale bypass to the west of here. They were never built. This section used to be a nail biter until just north of Salinas. I hate to tell you this but there used to be an intersection here and not an interchange. 156 West
