US101 North in Santa Bárbara County

US101 in Santa Bárbara, in 1987. These lights were gone by 1992. That is a good thing because this area used to jam up frequently.
This area was under construction by 1988.

US101 follows the ocean for a long way after Santa Bárbara. At Gaviota it heads inland, and it doesn't rejoin the ocean until Pismo Beach.
This is about five miles before Gaviota.

This is US101 north of Santa Bárbara. This is probably near Refugio State Beach. Point Conception lies off in the distance.
