This is a few miles south of Gaviota. The mountains are forest land. The peach colored rocks seem to cover most of the coastal mountains in the Santa Bárbara area.
The Gaviota tunnel in Santa Bárbara County is on the
northbound side
only. The southbound side is the newer side, and it was added when US101
became a divided four lane highway.
This is Gaviota summit (960'.)
In a heavy rain year it is super green like this.
Note the orange wildflowers in the center divide. They're most
prolific in a heavy rain year, but in almost every year, they appear
around
March or April. This is just west of Lake Cachuma.
This is the hill country north of 135 in Los
Alamos.
