I215 North in San Bernardino County, California
This is near JCT 60 East.
I215 is multiplexed with 60 until it reaches the interchange
with 91 and 60 West. I215 has a long downgrade after merging
with 60 East. Since this set of photos was taken the I215
interchange with 60 West and 91 has been redone! It was an
extremely bad interchange before 2007. Route 81 was proposed to
run from this area up to Devore. It was to be close to Sierra
Avenue and to join I15 30 miles north of here.
60 is formerly US60, and 91 is formerly US91.
Mile 28
This is approaching University Ave. I215 really drops abruptly
in elevation in this area also. Note the heavy smog. This
is from February 2002. This is the smoggiest photo I have ever
taken. It looked worse in real life! I really like I215.
Mile 32
Mile 35 is the interchange with 91 and 60. After this point,
I215 was formerly US395 and US91. The interchange used to be
worse going south on I215. This is by Mile 37. The traffic is
going extremely slowly the other way in this photo. This is in
Colton by La Cadena. This area has been widened since then and a
lot of the landscaping shown here is gone. The day I did this
I215 heading south was slow from I10 to 91 - 60.
Mile 45
This sign shows JCT 30 (soon to be I210) and Base Line Street.
The SR259 freeway is after this. I215 soon merges into I15. This
was taken in February 2002. By 2018 this part of the freeway was
10 to 12 lanes wide. After 210 it is narrower and after a little
while it is 70 MPH before it merges onto I15. This used to be
I15E. It used to be Temp I15E also and also California Route
194. That was because there were no letters on state highway
names legally.
I215 is formerly US395, US66, and US91 at this point.
