The number three lane becomes the truck bypass lane, and 99 South becomes mainline I5. There is an "END 99" sign right after merging onto I5 South. I5 South from here is roughly old US99 until Los Angeles. 99 is wider than I5 south of Bakersfield, though I5 does get heavier traffic in the valley.
