99 South in California (former US99)

Mile 33

[99 South]

Mile 27
JCT 204, which used to be US99.
Here 99 becomes eight lanes wide. Bakersfield is generally known as a less attractive city in California. There are oil wells in intersections and some broken window neighborhoods. It seems worse on the north and west sides of town. From Bakersfield you can see the Southern Sierra, Tehachapis, Tejón Pass, and the mountains north of Santa Bárbara, on a clear sky day.

[99 South]

Mile 25
  California Avenue.

[99 South]

Mile 23
This is after 58 East. The fast lane bottlenecks after this. Update: the Westside Parkway is being extended from the old terminus of the 58 freeway just west of 99. You cannot reach I5 directly on it but it does lead to western Bakersfield.
