Highway 58 East in California

45 miles east of 99, and the southern Sierra is way off in the distance, to the north.

[58 East]

The Tehachapi exit is Exit 151. It had an exit mile sign by February 2002. After you pass Tehachapi, you drop into a grassy valley, then the highway has a downgrade similar to US50 in the Carson City area.

This is 58 East at Randsburg Cutoff, and this is one of the first views of the desert, looking to the south east. The mountain peaks about 20 miles away are the Bissel Hills, located in Edward's Air Force base. The divider on 58 in this section is extremely tall.

This area gets high winds. Note the windmill powered generators. There are many of them on the hills west of Mojave, and they can be seen from up to 30 miles to the east on 58.

Approaching Mojave.
The Mojave airport has a "bone yard" of old passenger jet airplanes, similar to the "bone yard" of old air force airplanes at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona.
The San Bernadino Mountains are in the distance. In Mojave, which has been bypassed by a new freeway section, you see a sign post that says:

JCT US395      35
JCT I15            68
