180 West and J1 West (Proposed 180) in Fresno County

This is a hillside along the road, near the Friant-Kern Canal. These hills remind me of the countryside in Eastern Wyoming or Western Nebraska on I80.

[180 West]

After dropping into the Valley, 180 runs through Fresno. The 180 freeway is finally being built in the city, so you will no longer have to go through tough sections of town. After Fresno, it runs through Kerman and Mendota. It is a proposed highway to run all the way to Highway 25 South of Hollister. At one point, it was signed all the way to US101 (being routed with 25 until US101.) 180 might eventually be built to I5 on a new corridor some day. Check the Caltrans site for details.

99 North in Fresno
99 South in Fresno

This is 180 near Cornelia Ave in June 1994. The smog diminishes once you leave Fresno. You go through the tiny town of Rolinda, then through Kerman, which is a nice town, then Mendota, which is a rough town. After that you go through Panoche, then Hollister.

[180 West]

180 West in Rolinda. This is about all there is to this town. This is taken in October 1995.

[180 West]

180 approaching Kerman. This is from October 1995. Note the cotton to the left.
