152 West in Madera and Merced Counties

This drive can seem like a long, long drive, as long as you're between 99 and Interstate 5. Madera County doesn't name streets and avenues. They number them. So it can seem long and tiring to do this drive.  From 152's beginning at Highway 99 you can see Interstate 5 for about 50 miles to the south at night easily. After I5, 152 becomes a scenic route until US101. It currently isn't signed as a scenic route west of the Santa Clara County line, because of a high accident rate between US101 and 156. 152 West starts at 99 for now, but it is proposed to start at Highway 65 (another proposed highway) in the east Central Valley.

Most of this set was taken in May 1995 and July 1995 to I5, and they're from 4/2009 mainly after that point. This set of photos in the Central Valley was taken on a very clear day. The rural speed limit on 152 is 65 up to about Highway 156 generally.

Just west of 99.

I think this is near 59.

[152 West]

Near the Merced County line.
These two were taken in about the same place, but in different seasons.  The first is from late spring and there still is some living plants, the second is from the dead of summer where the landscape is generally brown and dead, unless it is irrigated farmland.

Looking towards the hills that surround the reservoir.
