140 West

140 is mainly four lanes, undivided, in the Sierra foothills west of Mariposa.
Here at Cathey's Valley you can have a breath taking view of a gigantic swath of the Central Valley, provided there is no smog.
Looking towards Coulterville and the hills 49 runs through. Cathey's Valley is the main overlook on 140 in the Sierra Foothills. I think this is 2200' up. This is from October 1996.

[140 West]

Looking towards Sacramento and Stockton.
I really need to get Infrared film so I can cut through the smog.
The rolling hills in the distance are mainly 400' to 1600' in elevation.

[140 West]

Don Pedro Reservoir and Lake McClure barely show up as blue patches here.
The Oak Trees cover the parts of the foothills that get the most rain. In the rain shadow, there is only dry grass.

[140 West]

The Oak trees that are native to the foothills were originally cultivated by California's Native American population.
