Like 99 in the Northern Central Valley, US101 zig zags
through
cities. US101 goes over a very long bridge at the north end of town. The river
is usually not full, except in El Niño years. In a drought year,
when this was taken, it wasn't full at all. The mountains in the
distance are near Avenal and Parkfield, and you
can see them from 46, and also from I5. The foothills are near Wild
Horse
road. The bridges on the northbound side of US101 are the old bridges,
from
the days when US101 was a two lane highway.
G13
West (it is signed as the East Pinnacles Exit)
This is just south of King City. The speed limit goes up to 70 MPH
about here. These next three are from 4/1995.
This is between King City and Wild Horse road.
US101 is now 70 MPH from here to the north end of San Luis Obispo
county. It is the San Miguel exit. This part of US101 is patrolled by
aircraft,
so don't get going too
fast. Old US101 is to the east of the freeway and named Cattlemen Road.
It
runs
down to San Ardo.
This section goes by very quickly.
