US101 South in Monterey County

This is by Esperanza Road in November 1995.

[US101 South]

Chaular is the next exit after the left turn to Esperanza Road. This section is not a freeway. This is from November 1995.

These next two are near Chualar. It is amazing this tiny town even has an overpass. This town is a bit rough, to say the least. They've talked for years about developing this area. This town was bypassed by the freeway in 1957. Chualar is a census designated place. The name may be indigenous though chual means pigweed in Spanish.

This is the Chualar exit.

[US101 South]

This is Chualar in June 1989.

[US101 South]

This is south of Chualar in April 1995.
The mountains on the horizon to the right of the freeway are near Arroyo Seco and some are in the National Forest.
