US101 South in Monterey County

This probably shows this area in its glory more than any other photo I have taken. This is an El Niño year, when the hills were as green as they ever get. The mountains on the horizon are near Parkfield and Avenal. There is quite a bit of BLM land in these hills, but much of it is closed to the public.

This is just before the San Ardo exit in April 1995. San Ardo was named San Bernardino initially. It was renamed San Ardo.

Soon after San Ardo you catch sight of the San Ardo oil field. This is from April 1995.

The elevation is pretty high for Monterey County but it is not steep through here. This is from April 1995.
