This set must have been taken within a few days of a fairly decent
storm.
Most Sierra highways don't have a lot of snow left as late as this was
taken (April 2001). Just west of Maiden's Grave, named for an Indian
Maiden who help
guide Kit Carson over the Sierras.
Entering Carson Spur, or 53 miles east of Jackson.
Note the snow plow in action. You won't see anything quite like this on
US50 or I80.
The snow pack is covering part of the highway.
This highway receives lower priority for snow plowing than I80 or US50.
