The snow pack is fairly robust for April, during a La Niña winter (cold with low precipitation.)  Normally the snow pack is its best from December through February. Just east of Lumber Yard Maintenance Station between Ham Station and Peddler Hill, and the elevation is high up here.

This set must have been taken within a few days of a fairly decent storm. Most Sierra highways don't have a lot of snow left as late as this was taken (April 2001). Just west of Maiden's Grave, named for an Indian Maiden who help guide Kit Carson over the Sierras.

Entering Carson Spur, or 53 miles east of Jackson.

Note the snow plow in action. You won't see anything quite like this on US50 or I80.
The snow pack is covering part of the highway.  This highway receives lower priority for snow plowing than I80 or US50.
This is Carson Spur and the elevation is 7990'.
