This set runs from Jackson, California to Minden, Nevada. It is
signed as 88 in California and Nevada. This highway is much faster than
I ever anticipated. When I used to look at 88 on a map, I figured it
was as slow as 190. I was wrong. Most of the way you can do 55 MPH.
It has a very tall summit at Carson Pass (about 8500' up.)
I would not take a big rig up this road, but I have seen them up here.
It is not as steep as 180 but has some climbs.
There is a short cut to 88, take Liberty Road off 99 (about 15 miles north of Stockton) to cut out a lot of slow driving.
88 is a higher speed highway than US50. This set is from 4/28/2001,
and December 2004.
Fellow highway enthusiast Joel Windmiller has his own "Adopt a
Highway"
section of 88, and he helped me clarify where my 2001 era photos of 88
were taken.
Route 104 is proposed to run quite a bit east of Jackson.
This is seven miles east of Liberty Road, and this is in the foothills.

Ten miles east of Liberty Road (after Highway 124.)

This is 12 miles east of Liberty Road, and the hills are green because this
was taken in December.
![[88 East]](88_e_california_26.jpg)
This is 14 miles east of Liberty Road. 88 climbs up and down in the
foothills.
