Highway 58 West in California (former US466)

This is taken near Lenwood Rd. Here you are looking at the San Bernadino Mountains, seen from quite a distance away. I think you can still see these peaks even from Mojave. These are from February 24, 2002. This is a nice highway to do in the winter, but definitely not as nice in the summer. There is a four lane, divided expressway being built near the Kramer section. There will be a railroad overpass. It will be done in late 2020. The Hinkley bypass east of US395 was done from about 2013 to 2015. It is a four lane expressway.

This is the divided section west of Hinkley. This was built in 1992.

This section probably lasts about five miles. It is a scenic highway, as long as you're not in Barstow, Bakersfield, Mojave, or Hinkley.

[58 West]

Here is the bottleneck. Here the divided section ends, and you ride on a two lane road (with purple asphalt) until just west of Kramer and US395.

Route 122 was supposed to meet 58 around here. The bottlenecks between Mojave and this point should be gone eventually, and this may some day be I40.
