58 West (former US466)

This route is a scenic desert route. I'd say it is probably at its best in the wintertime, when it is cool, and my experience has been that the sun shines here (between Barstow and Mojave) even when most of the state is being hit by El Niño storms.  This route may become I40 in the future.  Route 58 is formerly US466 (which linked Morro Bay, US101, Paso Robles, Bakersfield, US99, Mojave, Barstow, Las Vegas, and Kingman).  Highway 58 does get some winter time snow near Highway 223.  These two sets are from July 8, 2001 and February 24, 2002.

This is just one mile west of US 395 and Kramer.

This is 24 miles west of Kramer, in February 2002.
