Looking right at Mt. Stakes. The mountains to the right are the back
part of Henry Coe State Park. Mt. Stakes has expensive real estate. I can
remember a controlled burn got out of control here in October 1993. The
ridge line shown here is the county line and the elevation shown is up to
3800 feet.
Looking into Stanislaus and Merced Counties, pointed towards 152
about
four miles east of the summit.
Most of the ridge line on the horizon is Henry Coe State Park. The
hills
are partly in the park, and the park actually comes within a few miles
of this part of the road. There is no public entrance through here,
though
a road to the park (closed to the public) does reach 130 north of
here.
Welcome to the San Antonio Valley. Here the road heads north and is 55 mph plus. Some people actually ride their bikes out here. This is the closest you will get to seeing what Silicon Valley looked like before it was inhabited.
